Village Up North 2021 Camp Information
Dear campers and parents,
The following is information about our camping program.
Transportation: Round-trip transportation will be available from St. Mary’s Church in Livonia for $75 per camper. Campers will be expected to arrive at St. Mary’s Basilica no later than 9:00am on Monday, August 16, 2021. They will be transported to the camp by bus. We will arrive back at the Basilica at 2:00pm on August 21 full of stories and smiles.
Registration fees: $325 per camper. $350 if registration received after March 1, 2020. This does not include transportation. Financial assistance is available. Please contact your parish priest or the Village Up North Camp Committee at thevillageupnorth@gmail.com.
Scholarships: The Order of St. Ignatius offers scholarships for campers needing financial support to attend camp. Please contact your Parish priest or the camp director for an application form.
Medical insurance: All campers should be covered by their family insurance policy. Any medical expenses incurred at camp will be billed to the parent/guardian. Camper medical information will be provided in the Medical Information Form.
Cabin assignments: Each camper will be in a cabin with 9-10 other campers. There will be 2 counselors for each cabin. Cabins for the youngest campers will have bathrooms.
Camp activities: Activities include field sports, fishing, waters sports, swimming, arts and crafts, Christian education, hiking, morning and evening prayers services, and campfires.
Communication with campers: Cell phones, tablets and other devices are strictly prohibited at camp. This is meant to be a time away from distractions. The camp director will communicate with families if there are any emergencies.
Conduct: Campers are expected to act according to Orthodox Christian values. Violence, destruction of property, and possession of weapons, alcohol or any other illegal substances are strictly prohibited. The Camp Director reserves the right to dismiss campers from camp.
Food: Meals and snacks will be provided by the camp. There is no need to send additional food with your child. Any food allergies or restrictions must be disclosed in the Medical Information Form.
Packing list:
Clothes and pajamas for 6 days and 5 nights; prepare for rain
Modest swimwear
Hat
Water shoes (optional)
2 pairs of long pants, 2 long-sleeve shirts and a light jacket
1 pair of running shoes and sandals for the shower
Sleeping bag with twin-size sheet and pillow;
Flashlight
Toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, shaving supplies, soap, shampoo
Bath towel and beach towel
Bug spray and sunscreen
Medications (all medications are to be stored with the camp nurse and NOT in cabins)
Journal books and hobbies to share with other campers (instrument, cards)
Water bottle
Orthodox prayer book
The following items are NOT permitted at camp: electronic devices, alcohol
and tobacco products, immodest apparel, weapons and firearms, illegal substances, pets.
